About these states

Answering means it returned what this page asked for. Degraded means it answered and the answer is older than its own freshness window. Unavailable means it did not answer at all.

Gated is different from all three: the provider is reachable and working, and the part this product wants needs a credential this deployment does not hold. That is a decision somebody has to make, not an incident somebody has to fix.

What a provider is never allowed to be

Never the authority on a claimA provider answering is not evidence that its answer is right. Every figure carries which source produced it and when, so a reader can disagree with the source rather than with the page.

Never a routerRyntra normalizes and compares what a routing provider says. It does not compute a route, and a number this product derived would be a recommendation wearing evidence’s clothes.

Never a reason to invent a valueA read that fails resolves to UNAVAILABLE with its reason. It never falls back to a default, a zero, a cached figure or a blank.

Never a credential in your browserProvider keys are read on the server only, and a test fails if a client component imports a module that reads one.
